"CRESTED QUESTION "

The beautiful Pink Cockatoo is often called Major Mitchell's Cockatoo after the famous explorer Sir Thomas Mitchell (1722-1855) who wrote about it in glowing terms. Found mainly in the central regions of Australia, Pink Cockatoo's spend most of the day feeding on the ground or amongst the branches of trees and shrubs.

When courting, the male bird struts along the branch towards the female with crest raised. He bobs his head up and down and swishes it from side to side in a figure eight movement. The male offers soft chattering notes, then the pair preen each other.
